Born and raised in Virginia, Kenny Frey graduated from the Berklee College of Music with a degree in Film Scoring. Over the past decade, Kenny has obtained a broad range of experience and business savvy in the music and film industries. While living in Los Angeles, he learned the ropes of the entertainment industry working with Howard Rosen, Alan Howarth, Mike Post, Sam Schwartz and numerous temp assignments from the Friedman Agency. Kenny also has extensive film experience in publicity, acquisitions and business affairs. He worked at Gramercy Pictures, (which became USA Films and is currently Focus Features) for almost five years, forging lasting relationships across the entire entertainment spectrum.
Discovering the Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki led him to a love of dissonance. Most composers start at Bach and work towards "modern classical" music. Kenny started with the atonal and headed backwards, learning much later about the influences Bartok and Beethoven had on his favorite composer. Kenny writes in every style from classical to jazz to rock. For him, the real fun is doing something totally different and uniquely bizarre. He says, "If a director asks for industrial techno mixed with pretty strings and Mayans chanting, I'm delighted.”
Kenny currently enjoys being able to work and write back in his home state among the trees. When not composing, he enjoys playing guitar in a rock band with his brother and digging anywhere they'll let him.
